Garcia Williams
Principal / Owner
Garcia Williams is Principal and current owner of Stellar Communications, a public relations company founded by her late husband Sidney Williams, Jr. Having served previously as Executive Director of the YWCA of Greater Charleston and Executive Director of The Medi, she has been a longtime advocate for racial equity, building community with a concentration on social determinants of health focusing on women and the addiction population.
Having completed a successful career with Fortune 500 companies such as Xerox, WW Grainger and UPS, Garcia engages her talents in planning and implementing key events and programs in and around the City of Charleston, regionally and nationally. Recognition of her marketing and meeting planning skills resulted in her being named as Project Manager at the Medical University of SC (MUSC) to manage logistics and site management for The Annual National Conference on Health Disparities sponsored in part by MUSC.
For more than 12 years she has worked diligently hosting events in Charleston, Little Rock, Arkansas, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Washington, DC, St Croix and St. Thomas in the USVI, Long Beach, California and Atlanta, Georgia. Oakland, California was the 2019 host city for the 12th annual event.
While serving as a member of the host committee at the 2015 Congressional Black Caucus Health Brain Trust meeting hosted by MUSC in Charleston, SC, a chance meeting provided a timely introduction to The Medi Community Resource Center. This non-profit organization provided an introduction and a pivotal opportunity to engage technology to address gaps and connect healthcare resources to disadvantaged communities. Garcia’s mission and focus through The Medi was to build this organization and its reach to connect the community with critical resources through educational forums, training, entertainment and the use of technology to bring about more positive health outcomes.
In February of 2019, The Medi Community Resource Center hosted its First Annual Red Dress Sunday event. This event held during Heart Health Month, focused on heart disease, and more specifically women’s heart health in the faith-based communities. Throughout the month, The Medi provided materials, resources and speakers to over 25 congregations who celebrated during their worship service and at events targeted on educating women on the preventive measures and a healthier lifestyle.
A native of Baltimore, Maryland, she relocated to Charleston from the Washington DC area as a full time resident in 2000. Garcia is a natural communicator whose expertise includes building strong relationships traditionally and through social media to enhance business and networking opportunities. She is always seeking new opportunities to broaden her horizons and to make an impact on the local, regional and national business community.
Ms. Williams is a graduate of The University of Maryland, Eastern Shore, where she reigned as Miss UMES; she also completed a Women’s Management Certification Program at Smith College in Northampton, MA, and her graduate studies were completed at The American University in Washington DC, where she received a Master’s in Information Systems.
