Steven Godin

Steven Godin, MS, Ph.D., MPH, PHI is a clinical psychologist and public health educator with over 40 years of experience in behavioral health, health education, and program evaluation. His career spans academia, applied research, and clinical practice, with a focus on community health, health equity, and the use of technology innovations to improve public and behavioral health outcomes.

He holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and an MPH in Health Education & Behavioral Science, with additional post graduate certification in Public Health Informatics. His academic appointments have included Full Professor roles at the University of Utah School of Medicine and East Stroudsburg University, where he directed multiple degree programs, built interorganizational networks, and helped secure more than $26 million in collaborative research funding.

Dr. Godin specializes in designing and evaluating community-based and technology-driven health and behavioral health interventions, with emphasis on social marketing, media advocacy, web-based tools, and policy strategies. He has consulted widely on coalition development, community and state needs assessments, capacity building, and program sustainability through federally funded projects (HRSA, SAMHSA, CDC, IHS).  He presently serves as a federal reviewer for SAMHSA. Over the last four decades, he has mentored hundreds of graduate students in public health and clinical psychology.

Currently serving as Adjunct Full Professor at the University of Utah, he continues to advise on substance use disorder curriculum development for the medical school and nursing programs. His more recent work explores the use of arts, music and theater to raise funds for non-profits.  During these events, he uses “edutainment” (entertaining-educational approaches) to advance health literacy and reduce stigma around mental health and substance use.
